Planning Ministry Reveals Private Sector Contribution Rates in Construction and Agriculture

Baghdad – Al-Sabah Al-JadeedThe Ministry of Planning confirmed the implementation of a plan to actively involve the private sector in the developmental environment, stating that its contribution rate in the construction sector has risen to 50%, and in agriculture to 90%.The ministry spokesperson, Abdul Zahra Al-Hindawi, said: “The government’s general direction and plans focus on the necessity for the private sector to have the space it deserves,” pointing out that “the countries of the world that have witnessed development, growth, and economic stability did not achieve this except by relying on the private sector. Today, we are discussing a plan through which we want to actively and effectively integrate the private sector into the developmental environment and scene.”Al-Hindawi explained that “currently, the private sector’s share in the construction sector, for example, reaches 50%, compared to 50% for the government sector, which is a good indicator. As for the agricultural sector, the private sector’s contribution rate is 90%, compared to 10% for the government, which is considered an excellent indicator.”He added, “Some sectors are dominated by the public sector, including the oil sector and basic service sectors such as education and health, where the larger share is for the public sector, with a partnership with the private sector.”
