Iraqi Hezbollah Calls for Partial Opening of Border with Syria
Follow-up – Al-Sabah Al-Jadeed:The Iraqi Hezbollah Brigades have called for a partial reopening of the Iraq-Syria border.According to an official statement released on Saturday by Abu Ali al-Askari, the security official of the Kata’ib Hezbollah, he expressed support for a partial border opening between Iraq and Syria. In the statement, he said:"The rapid developments, weak stances, and major challenges facing our dear people and the peoples of the region require us to take a responsible and clear position—one that serves our central causes related to sovereignty, the removal of occupation forces, the prosecution of those responsible for the blood of the commanders of victory, and the theft of public funds."He affirmed:"We support the partial opening of the Iraq-Syria border for trade and for visits to the holy shrines, given the benefit this would bring to our Syrian brothers."This position follows the meeting between Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani and Syrian President Ahmad Shar’ in Doha, which marked a shift away from Iraq’s previous reluctance toward opening up to Syria.
